The Showrunner Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
