Severe Downpours Aggravate Situation for Displaced Gazans, Officials Alert

Intense storms over the past week have compounded the already dire living conditions of the vast number of uprooted residents in the territory, according to aid agencies.

"Terrible" Weather Poses Severe Threats

A spokesman characterized the weather overnight as "horrendous", with rain so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.

"The recent weather was truly horrendous for the families. The storms were so strong... And the gales were so powerful," noted the spokesperson.

Authorities voice significant worry that children residing in tents in soaked garments will contract hypothermia and additional ailments.

Fatalities and Widespread Damage

The health ministry have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures triggered by the severe weather.

Other reports indicate a higher number of casualties. Officials reported that numerous residential buildings had fully given way and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Aid Distribution Deemed Inadequate

Organizations have stepped up shipments of tents, blankets and clothes since the halt in hostilities commenced, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"We are working relentlessly to deliver that assistance and to distribute it, but the scale of the requirements is so immense that we are faced with thousands of individuals and minors who are truly enduring hardship each evening," cautioned one spokesperson.

Long-Term Concerns and Agreement Plans

The subsequent part of the truce encompasses arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the removal of military forces, and other provisions.

Humanitarian organizations have stressed the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet urgent and long-term needs."

The hostilities was triggered by an assault in the autumn of 2023. Following campaigns have caused a high number of fatalities in the region, based on medical data.
