Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with the Championship side just seven months after starting insulting chants aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with injury in recent years.
