Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration. “Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.” This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection. A New Life This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release. “The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message. “It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
